Last weekend, I took a big step forward in my journey as an author by participating in the Baltimore Book Festival.  It was both a milestone and a learning experience.  One of the biggest takeaways from the event was the opportunity to meet Sydney Francis, Dionne Peart, Sharon Polk, and Gee Williams.

While the festival was filled with an array of authors, these writers were stationed in the Author's Tent with me.  Like me, they are also independent authors building a readership for their work. I was inspired by their vision and commitment not only to their writing craft but also the development of their businesses.  Moreover, I felt a spirit of camaraderie as each shared ambitions, stories, and encouragement.

The journey of the self-published author can be a lonely experience.  The ever-present insecurites of how readers will respond to the writing to the very real-business choices of wondering if a particular investment lead to an increase in sales, are just some of the discouraging owl hoots along this desolate path of uncertainity.

Yet today, I am more encouraged, more empowered, and more prepared to advance forward in this journey thanks to Sydney, Dionne, Sharon, and Gee.  I believe if you check-out their work (click each book cover above for additional information) you too will be a bit more inspired.  Who knows, you may even discover a new favorite writer!
